The ADDiva IS wearing clothing (most of the time)

Clothing for ADHD women

No fussy stuff for ADDivas
(except the occasional hat or boa, for heaven's sake!).
We need shirts without tags, soft fabrics that don't itch, nothing too loose
or too tight
to distract us from the real business at hand: researching
African elephants while catching up on email and playing online Sudoko.

Tips on choosing clothing and accessories:

1. Try on things before you buy them
Yes, it's a pain and VERY tedious for some ADDivas, but if you don't
try them on BEFORE you buy them, you're stuck with returning them
AFTER you buy.

And that means holding on to the receipt, finding it when you finally
get time to got back to that store and actually making it to the Returns
Desk intact...no small feat for ADDivas.

ADDiva question: how many times have you spent money on clothes,
never worn them, lost the receipt or didn't return it within three or four
month so it was too late? This gets expensive.

 2. Buy mix and match
Buying on impulse - a pretty jacket here, a pair of pants there - can
often result in "nothing to wear" because nothing works together.

Without sounding macabre, black works with anything - even those
chartreuse pants you HAD to have, but then weren't too crazy
about once you got home.

ADDiva tip: Black clothings hides a variety of ADDiva spills (never serve an
ADDiva red wine when she's wearing white pants). And while
you're at it, forget about white pants all together.

 3. Buy washable clothes
Dry cleaning is
a) expensive
b) bad for the ecosystem and
c) requires yet another thing on your To-Do Errand list
(if also requires gas in most cases -- refer to "a" above)

Let yourself off the hook and let your washing machine
do the work....UNLESS there's a dry cleaner who picks
up and delivers in your town (and you can afford it).

ADDiva tip:  If you can afford dry cleaning - ask about laundry service,
too. Some dry cleaners will wash your undies and return
them fresh and sweet, along with the rest of your clothes. And do
check on "green" dry cleaners in your area - fewer chemicals on you
and Mother Earth.

4. Shop hard - once
If you shop hard, then you don't have to think about "What can I possibly
wear today?" You'll have done the hard work and you can let your
ADD-ish brain rest while you put on comfy, coordinating clothes
that won't drive you crazy all day long (who can stand to wear scarves
that dangle and come untied and fall into your soup at lunch?)

ADDiva tip: When you find clothes you like, pay attention to the
label, then see if you can shop that label for all seasons -- summer
weight pants, then winter cuddly tops (that DON'T itch).

5. Take your time
Don't let sales people or shopping companions
hurry you along
(better to go alone than with a friend who keeps saying "buy it").
Take the time you need to make good decisions for you.

It makes no difference that the sweat pants are out of style or
the color doesn't match your eyes. You have to live inside these
clothes - no one else.
And when you are comfy inside your own
clothes, you're more likely to be comfy inside your own skin.
