My garden retreat dream comes true!

Well, I did it.

Set my intention, kept walking towards it and finally made my dreams come true.

On August 4, 2006, we closed on the mortgage (yes even dreams come with mortgages) for an addtional two-acre tract of land that (almost) adjoins GardenSpirit. On that land sits a home that will become GardenSpirit Guesthouse. Yoo-hoo! My own garden retreat house at last!

It's a four-bedroom home that will eventually sleep as many as nine people in extra-long, extra-comfy twin beds (or four couples in king size beds when we scoot them together). There's a full kitchen, a dining room that I am transforming into a cafe-bistro for meals and afternoon tea, a living room perfect for snuggling up with a good book or enjoying the massage chair, a cozy family room with a gigantic fireplace and -- the piece de resistance - a glorious sunroom with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook an extremely private two-acre back yard. Wow!

The house needs some TLC -- it sorely lacks charm and the gardens have been neglected. But I am working hard to get ready for the debut of the guesthouse. I put a pot of petunias on the front stoop and a hummingbird feeder on the deck. The little hummers found it immediately, which made me feel better.

It's a big house and right now I am a bit overwhelmed with so much to do in a short time. But we are getting there. You can follow my daily progress in the GardenSpirit blog - I'm shopping, painting, tearing down walls, meeting with contractors, electricians, flooring people. Whew.

I have waffled over whether to show you the "before" pictures, but I decided to let you witness the transformation, even if electronically. So, here are the first pictures of GardenSpirit -- the "before" glimpse. Stay tuned for more of my dream come true!

PS- GardenSpirit Guesthouse will be open for my own retreats and workshops. I am also wildly excited about individual retreats if you need a place to unwind or write or garden. And I will consider allowing other retreat facilitators to use the property, too. Be in touch if either of those options are interesting to you. Hugs and love!
